What do your employees really need to stay safe and healthy?

Work related injuries and illnesses account for around 30 million lost workdays every year in the UK. Keeping your employees safe and healthy is about more than just complying with the law; it makes business sense too. Here are some key essentials for your workers health and safety that you should be considering:

  • Provide the right equipment

If your workers need to lift, give them tools to help. If they need to stack, make it safe to do so. Simple things like trolleys, trucks and skates can make a tough job safer and easier, saving backs from strain and avoiding injuries.

  • Provide PPE

PPE is essential in some jobs and recommended in others. Think about what your workers are doing and ask yourself if they could be made safer with safety clothing. Cheap purchases such as safety goggles, gloves and high visibility vests can go miles towards making everyone a little bit safer.

  • Think ergonomics

One of the biggest issues in the modern workplace is the amount of time we’re all required to sit. Sitting can significantly shorten lives, but it’s unavoidable in many roles. Consider investing in ergonomic chairs and desks for your office so that people aren’t being strained or left in pain because of their sitting position. Sit-stand desks can be a great addition to encourage more active working practices too.

  • Control hazardous substances

If you work in a factory or heavy industry, you’ve probably already got good safety measures in place for controlling hazardous substances, but it’s often the businesses who don’t realise they’re dealing with dangerous chemicals who fail to secure them properly. Bleach in the cleaner’s cupboard, industrial degreaser in the kitchen… they could all become risks if not properly controlled.

  • Invest in germ killing lockers

Both Biocote and ActiveCoat protect your workforce against the spread of bacteria, mould and fungus, being 99 per cent effective against stopping the growth of some of the worst germs out there. Both have been proven in independent tests to protect against MRSA, E-Coli, Streptococcus, Black Mould, Salmonella and Listeria.

Treated cube and quarto lockers are an ideal choice for any business dealing with vulnerable people or food, including hospitals, schools, leisure centres, public buildings, healthcare establishments and restaurants. They really are the icing on the cake for the better health and safety and will also provide somewhere to store things like PPE, cleaning materials and more.
