wet area lockers

How will you make your changing rooms really stand out?

If you’re planning a makeover of your gym or leisure centre changing room, or are creating a new business from scratch, keep in mind that the thought and effort you put into this area can have a big impact on your business. Footfall has been shown to significantly increase if customers feel that the changing room is clean, pleasant and caters to their needs, and many will judge the entire business on the basis of this room.

There are plenty of things we can already think of that constitute an unpleasant changing room area. Cold showers, blocked drains, clingy shower curtains… the list goes on. Keep your personal pet hates in mind when designing your changing room and learn from our top tips for exemplary changing room design.

Create the right ambience with lighting

Lighting needs to be adequate, but don’t overdo it. Glaring light will make people uncomfortable, so go for a nice ambient light with extra lighting around mirrors as necessary. Diffuse, orange coloured lighting is more sympathetic for changing areas, but all lighting should adhere to the standards for wet environments.

Provide all necessary amenities

To make both men and women comfortable in your changing areas, you’re going to need certain amenities present. For instance, somewhere to shower and go to the toilet, somewhere to dry off and change in private as well as somewhere to dry hair, shave and apply makeup. Consider who will use your changing room and provide family or disabled cubicles as necessary.

Think about layout

One big square room doesn’t really work for a changing area, as there is very little in the way of privacy or personal space. A better solution would be to use line of sight baffles to create more privacy, and to offer a number of private cubicles for changing. Whatever you do, make sure nobody can see the changing area from outside when the main door is open.

Choose the right lockers for your clientele

Wet area lockers come in all shapes and sizes, so you’ve got a lot of options to choose from in terms of what you want to provide. Supplying a range of sizes is usually a good idea, as this allows for more capacity while still catering for different needs. Think about the locks on your wet area lockers too; you could choose from key locking, pad lock locking, a combination lock, keypad or coin / token lock. Antibacterial lockers are a great choice for wet area lockers, as they help stop the spread of germs.

Have amazing showers

Gym users are often pushed for time, so spend the extra money to ensure really good, hot, powerful showers are available to allow them to refresh fast. The little touches make all the difference, so think about installing hooks for towels, shelves for soap and stools for clothes or bags. You could even consider providing your own shampoo and shower gel in a dispenser, further saving your customers time and hassle.
